Franca Florio, from whom the room takes its name, was a woman who shaped the history of Palermo from the late 19th century to the mid-20th. Celebrated and admired in the salons of Palermo, she was immortalised by Gabriele D'Annunzio as "L'Unica" or "The One and Only".

She played a fundamental role in managing the family's vast business empire, which encompassed banks, shipyards, tuna fisheries, salt pans and wineries.
